"Upon arrival, the staff was extremely welcoming and kind. Our room and the view were beautiful. The only minor complaint is that our booking mentioned a mini fridge, but there wasn’t one in the room. When I asked the front desk, they explained they were waiting on a shipment and had none available. Since we stayed for eight nights, it was challenging to manage without a fridge, so we had to purchase an ice chest to keep our drinks cold. I highly recommend booking taxi rides in advance through the front desk if you plan to go out and about. We often waited between 45 minutes to an hour for taxis. The hotel only provides one bottle of water per day, and the drinking fountains were broken. However, the hotel restaurant was kind enough to fill up our bottles when we asked. The hotel itself is very nice, though it could use some upgrades. The pool, for instance, looks a bit outdated and needs some maintenance, though it was kept very clean. If you don’t get a room with laundry machines, there is only laundry service which is very expensive. The food at both the main restaurant and the bar was excellent! I also recommend exploring other islands like Moorea and Bora Bora instead of staying just in Tahiti. If you are like us and have a late departure home, the late checkout is based upon availability. So, you could find yourself having to checkout at 11 and stuck waiting around. The airport is small. The locals are incredibly friendly, and overall, it was a wonderful experience."

"Amazing location! We landed, took a taxi to this hotel with others and paid $13, went to the hotel. Next day, we walked to the ferry dock (literally less than a 5 minute walk), and went to Moorea! Best location."

"I stayed 2 nights in the Kon Tiki Hotel's first floor small cabins: one night on arrival to French Polynesia from the USA, and the other the night before I left. Excellent stays both times. Clean comfortable rooms, convenient location for access to all that's in Papeete and to all the ferry services right across the street that go to many other islands. On both stays, the front desk staff was very friendly, efficient, and helpful - especially in allowing me to store luggage before my check-in time, and making my room available to me just as soon as a clean room was available. There's an excellent coffee shop on ground level where the service is equally good, and it's open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. There's also a lively rooftop open-air bar with a wonderful view over Papeete harbor looking toward Moorea that stays open late and is quite popular. A special shout-out to the young ladies at the front desk who can provide comprehensive information about tours, and work miracles to book any such tours and events. They helped me get an incredible last-minute tour of the Papeno'o Valley on Tahiti Nui, which turned out to be the best day of a totally wonderful trip to French Polynesia. They were also able to identify available options for me to see a Tahitian Dance Show with buffet, and once I had selected the show at the Intercontinental they booked my reservation there as well. The Kon Tiki charges a fair price, and I highly recommend them for a convenient & comfortable stay in Papeete!"

"The rooms are small... and the Mahana has place bunkers... I am in a women s one which for me... an older person is better... the beds are bunkers well built strong and with curtains of black material so each person can close it not to have light from others... also this reminds others to be kind and considerate to others... it has lockers without keys... ok each person can put things with locks in their bags... the under the bed space is tall so the suitcases fit... and each bed has a charger plug and a small light to have light in the bed... for people who have to get up at night and to leave in the dark. The bedding is neat and clean. The kitchen is huge and clean. All in light beautiful colors and art painted in the walls and decorated with apple green and white colors... very nice... toilet paper... soap in all bathrooms... I am up late and there is an attendant cleaning and doing guard in the place... i am very impressed."

"Our stay was exceptional. Worth every cent. We also knew what we were getting into… yes, an overwater bungalow does come with a cost, but it’s the experience you’re paying for. Whether it’s on your bucket list, you like to walk out your door and into the water to snorkel, the views, the privacy, it’s all worth it."
