Luxury Thatched Cottage in the South Downs

"What an incredible "cottage" - it was so big, it felt like a mansion! Located on a quiet country lane, surrounding by beautiful scenery, this place was perfect for a nature-based weekend event at the nearby Gilbert White House and Gardens, as well as a reunion retreat for three senior ladies. The cottage was immaculate and the kitchen (always my favourite room in a house) was gorgeous. Well-stocked with an amazing array of everything needed for those who are culinary inclined, and more than adequate for those (like us) who chose not to cook - the lovely Aga oven and microwave suited us just fine! We spent our evenings on the large patio, surrounded by birds, bats, flora, deer feeding on the apples from the trees, and a dark sky filled with stars and satellites whizzing all over! The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were spacious and super clean. The entire cottage was filled with everything needed for a family getaway - TVs, indoor/outdoor games, books - just perfect! Breakfast at the farmhouse table was enhanced with a choice of coffee-making machines and kettle. Tamsin, the lovely host, provided various coffees and teas - we shopped for other basics at the nearby Tesco Express. The huge grounds were delightful, and the adjacent walking path was perfect for an afternoon stroll. Love, love, love this property - highly recommended for 3 adults as well as big families - so much space! Tamsin was a marvellous host and we can't wait to return."

"The White House suited our needs for the weekend whilst attending a local wedding. The location was great and the setting really relaxing. We were a family of 6 adults and a baby so having the 5 bedrooms worked well. It was nice to be able to sit outside in the evening. However, points for consideration for future guest visits:- We only had tepid water in the ensuite and house bathroom so not ideal We did get a call saying the garden was overdue a lawn cut but it would have been nice to see this done prior to our arrival The recycling bins were absolutely full of bottles prior to our arrival There was no 'welcome pack' as we were told there would be It would be nice to have better quality bedding"

"My wife and I stayed at the cottage for two weeks. The pictures and description of the cottage and area were accurate. We really liked the Hampshire/Candover area, which is beautiful for hiking and touring around. Peter was very enjoyable and helpful. When the microwave broke down, he arranged for an immediate replacement the next day. The house and garden provided great privacy, with only the sound of birds, the occasional deer and other wild animals. Almost every day, we used the tennis court for our morning workout. The court surface is a bit worn, but good enough to play and very nicely located on the premises. In other words, we can warmly recommend a stay at the cottage in the grounds of Dower House. Mark and Mariet N."

"An idyllic location with the forest on your door step. The lodge is clean, bright, airy and cosy. Fantastic weekend with a trip into Alton and and a walk around their local craft fair which happens once a month. Our timing was perfect. If you like craft fairs selling local produce and stalls selling hand made crafts this is well worth a visit, just check dates that the fair is on. We only stayed for the weekend but would highly recommend staying here and enjoying all the things that are on offer in the vicinity."
