Bere Alston Station. View eastwards, towards Okehampton, Exeter and , eventually, London Waterloo; ex-London & South Western main line Exeter - Okehampton - Plymouth, and Plymouth, Devonport & South Western Junction branch to Gunnislake and Callington. The main line from Okehampton was closed 6/5/68, leaving a service Plymouth (North Road) - Callington (reversing at Bere Alston), which had been cut back to a (rebuilt) Gunnislake station from 7/11/66. (Plymouth Friary had closed 15/9/58, passenger services thereafter starting at North Road).

"Stunning country castle style hotel. Rooms finished to a very high standard. Staff were wonderfully attentive, seemed genuinely pleased to help and proud of their establishment. Packed with history and a real oasis of peace and comfort. Afternoon tea and breakfast were delicious with a wide choice of options. I felt that the dinner option I had was a bit “nouveau cuisine”, lots on the plate but not much there. But what was there was very well prepared. Spa was very pleasant, although a bit of a shame that the steam room was out of order, as well as the lift to the spa. Will be staying again, it’s not cheap, but you pay for what you get. "
