"Room clean with comfortable bed and nice bedding. Lovely waiter in the restaurant from South Africa. Breakfast nice with order service for poached/fried eggs. Plenty choice at bar."
"The hotel is perfectly located in the middle of town, right next door to the cathedral. A great launch site for exploring the city.
We were able to park directly under the hotel which was very convenient as it was raining.
The hotel is clean and tidy, but starting to show its age in places and probably due a refurbishment at some point.
We enjoyed our stay and would probably stay there again."
"Well located on a quiet street (St Peter’s) close to the High Street w/shops, bakeries, restaurants galore. Historic property from 1500’s renovated and renovated but still felt the history. Rooms down this or that twisty hallway are pretty much the same size, just large enough, Room w/garden view would be preferable. No robes or slippers but tea pot and biscuits in rooms. Off street parking, although we didn’t use it. Need to be a bit careful in bathroom as shower can spray outside of glass...
"Overall: Good stay, but limited food options
The breakfast here was really excellent — fresh, tasty, and plenty of choice. That was definitely the highlight of my stay.
However, the lunch and dinner options are quite limited. The menu is mostly sandwiches, pizza, pasta, and steaks — not much variety at all. In my opinion, the food just isn't worth the price. On the plus side, the drinks are reasonably priced for a hotel."
"Spa is the worste ever.. Mould between the pool tiles.. Steam. Room. Door not working... In the room shower with mould... For. 4 stars is quite unexpected"
"We used the hotel for a one night stay plus breakfast and a meet point for a coffee with family before our journey home up north. Hotel was beautifully presented, easy to find and clean. As with most hotels that are not new, there were small picky bits around the hotel that a good housekeeper would pick up on… light bulbs out, chip on ceramic bath tub, one bath towel in double occupancy, light discoloured curtains. However, a pleasant stay, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent,...
"Stayed here many times visiting family, lovely place all round - staff, food, drinks, rooms, seating area - all great, look forward to our next trip 👍"
"The pub is in a great location for exploring the town. The bar has a nice atmosphere and serves very nice food
Lovely breakfast too
The bedroom was great
Definitely will return"
"regarding our family's stay at Kings Head on the night of 21st October 2026. What should have been a joyful celebration of my husband’s graduation turned into a distressing and medically unsafe experience for our family.
Upon arrival, we discovered that there was no heating functioning in our room. As we explicitly informed both the manager and another member of staff at check-in, our two young daughters have sickle cell disease. Cold temperatures are a direct physical trigger for severe sickle...
"Probably one of the worst 3 star hotel bedrooms (room 12) we have ever stayed in. The bathroom was terrible, ceiling paint was peeling off, shower seal was broken causing the floor to flood, toilet roll holder was hanging off, soap dispenser was broken, door handle did not work and signs of damp or roof leak staining on the ceiling.
The bedroom was no better, window was rotten and could not be opened. Paint peeling off the window and radiator, black mould on the window catch, provided fan was...
"The hotel was great and had a relaxing atmosphere. Good food and the staff were helpful and friendly. The spa was nice but in the smaller side so I would try and go during quieter periods. The room was a good size and very clean. At breakfast there was a good amount to choose from if you don’t have any specific dietary requirements."
