"Mostly it was fine. Food and drinks are expensive though.
The place is a bit like a rabbit warren so it could do with a few more signs around both to and from reception to the rooms. Especially on both sides of the door near the table tennis.
The communal spa changing rooms are not everyone's 'cup of tea'
It would appear that the reception computer could do with an update as it took some time to recognize our booking

"A beautiful setting. The parkland with peacocks and chickens was great to walk around with our dog. Rooms spacious and clean with good facilities and restaurant food excellent. Staff were super friendly and helpful - a great place to stay especially as a base for walking/visiting the Lake Distrct."
"Lovely one night stay at the hotel. Really impressed with the room, lovely view and loved that we had a bath too. The grounds around the property are stunning. The view from breakfast was delightful. Parking was a squeeze, we were lucky to get a space. Would have preferred if the bar/lounge stayed open for the evening but other than that a great stay!"
"Very decent place to stay with comfortable rooms, welcoming and helpful people and a first class breakfast. I especially liked the vegetarian breakfast, the Motown music and jazz posters. Easy to find and good parking."
"I've stayed at the Trout a number of times, it is a pretty, well maintained hotel with lots of character and ideally placed to explore Cockermouth, the Western Lakes and the national park. The food is good and the staff are professional and very friendly."
"Booked a double room but got a room with 3 single beds. Not the end of the world but not what I booked.
Beds were uncomfortable. Mattress was really thin, when you sat on it you were basically sat on the bed base and when you laid on the bed you could feel the springs in your back and side.
The walls were wafer thin, you can hear the tap running and toilet etc from the room next door. Also the water in the bathroom made a right racket when you ran the tap, shower or flushed the toilet.

"Great hotel, staff were fantastic and really helpful.
They even arranged for an early continental breakfast for us way before the usual breakfast time.
I couldn’t praise them enough."
"Excellent room; responsive staff is committed to service. Use driveway to the LEFT (downhill) of the house. Parking can be tricky in small lot, but help is available. Phone is needed for initial entry if staff is off-site (room key is in lock box and a phone call provides the code). I had a very happy and comfortable stay."
