"This hotel was excellent value for money. Our room was VERY spacious relative to other places we stayed in Tokyo/Osaka etc., and the amenities were high quality. We could see mountains out of one window and Matsumoto Castle out of the other, and it was a very easy walk to the Castle and many restaurants. "A really old-fashioned Japanese onsen experience like nothing else. We ate in the Japanese restaurant one night and French the other evening. The food was fantastic. Rooms were comfortable but old fashioned. I would highly recommend the room with a private onsen - we saw tanuke (Japanese raccoon dogs) approach whilst we were bathing which was a really special experience. We hiked to the ridge (5 hours return) through a beautiful forest."
