"The Mandarin Oriental this is not. This is a clean, well run, small European hotel, not new, but well maintained, with a very friendly and astonishingly multi-lingual staff.
The clientele appeared to be well-to-do couples speaking French and German. The food in the restaurant was not flaming or foaming, but the lasagne made with fresh pasta was very nice, as was my glass of red wine.
The hotel is within spitting distance of both Hertz and the train station. If you have reason to stay overnight...

While at first I was a bit concerned it was on the "other" side of the station away from the town of Lugano the property had many redeeming features, like beautiful grounds and a lovely breakfast, that made it worth it. Yes there is some noise from the trains and you have to walk across the train parking lot to get there but it felt like a little oasis above Lugano and was a really pleasant stay. "This is a solid option for a budget conscious traveller or someone looking for charm and character without paying the high prices down on the waterfront. Amenities are acceptable and the staff is very accommodating. Breakfast was also excellent with a good cross section of options."

Die Klimaanlage streikte leider die letzten beiden Tage. Zudem gabs kleinere Mängel wie klemmende Balkontür und schlechtem Ablauf in der Dusche.
Das Frühstück war lecker, aber wenig abwechslungsreich mit recht kleiner Auswahl.

"The only good thing about the hotel Besso is the location next to the Central Station. The hotel is horrible - first there is no Air condition so the heat is intense. The bath is extremely small and the shower you hardly can fit so if there is a heavy person (180 pounds or more) this person will not fit in the shower. Literally there is no soap - they give you two very small pieces which have little soap. The beds are terrible and super ugly. The towels, some of them are super old....
