"We were genuinely sad we only had one night to stay at Banana Azul! Check in was quick and efficient and friendly. The fresh coconut was a lovely treat. The Howler Suite was charming and the view magical. The food in the restaurant was delicious. I highly recommend Banana Azul if you want an authentic Costa Rica experience that’s right on the Playa Negra beach. I’ll definitely be returning. "

"Lovely resort tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town. You wouldn’t even know it’s there. Need to have coffee makers in the rooms along with access to communal water and ice. For the price, it was expensive."

"It's a cute, clean, comfortable, and peaceful place to stay at. It has a nice pool. Our unit had a well equipped kitchen. The only negative I felt was a relatively long bumpy dirt road that takes you to the property. "

"We loved our stay. The bungalows are beautiful and private, in a forest setting. You can see wildlife and hear howler monkeys in the distance. Raphael and Paola are wonderful hosts, ready with tips for activities and restaurants in the area. The breakfasts were delightful. Highly recommended! "

"The room was very clean and comfortable. However, it would have been nice to have a refrigerator and also an air conditioner since it can get very warm and the ceiling fan alone does not cool the room down. The staff and owners are super friendly and very attentive. We left very early in the morning and the lady working in the kitchen (I believe her name was Gira) offered to prepare us some sandwiches, which super nice of her. One negative was that things do not dry since its super humid outside...

"The property grounds are beautiful. Location is great. We stayed in one of the new cabins with two beds, perhaps specifically catered for a family (we had two young kids ages 9 and 12). It has a beautiful outdoor bathroom attached to the cabin (shower, toilet, sinks are all open with a half wall and greenery to provide some cover. The odd thing is the door only locks from the outside and there's no way to lock it when you're inside the cabin...so as a young family, it didn't feel as safe knowing...

"You will not be able to wear shoes which would not be a problem normally but at this hotel you will have to walk down 1in x4in planks that are loose and popping up at times several feet above the ground. Not having AC and hot water weren’t a big deal in October but I did not expect low safety standards. I felt like I was going to fall through the planks several times."
