"A basic hotel set in lovely, peaceful grounds. The rooms could do with updating, but for a three-star hotel, they were as expected. I didn’t book breakfast, and unfortunately, the Sunday roast didn’t look very appealing.
I stayed for four nights while visiting family, and the location was quiet and pleasant. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. However, housekeeping didn’t clean our room once during our stay. When we asked for it to be cleaned, the cleaner said she would, but instead left...
"The bathroom was in a poor start of repair. The side bath panel was water damaged and obviously been treated and then left Showing further damage and falling apart.
The bathroom mirror required changing with various black marks across it.
The thermostatic controls were really stiff and couldn’t be fully used for both hot and cold. The markings for hot and cold faded and difficult to establish which way to turn.

"The receptionist was very helpful and welcoming when we arrived.
Allocated a room with a four poster bed, as I'm a little claustrophobic we asked to change room at reception, no problem at all. Overlooking the river with balcony we would definitely stay again in this room.
It is a little tired but clean and comfortable."
"Lovely location and tranquil setting. However our stay did not include breakfast and at £13 each we gave it a miss. Plenty of parking outside, although there were very few staff around, we had to call the hotel to get someone at reception."
"It was nice to stay in an older building in the area to feel the historic charm, but the slanted hallways, stairs and uneven floor boards in the room took away from the charm and instead signaled a lack of investment. We spent most of our time outside the hotel so I can't really comment on the amenities."

There is no parking but was able to drop the bags off. Car park nearby and reasonably priced (5minute walk back).

"On the plus side the housekeeper was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bathroom was beautifully tiled but the fittings were not working as they should. We did mention that the sink plug stuck but it was still the same when we left. Breakfast was also excellent and could not fault the full English for quality and cooking.
Only minuses are traffic noise - which is beyond the hotel’s control - but they are single glazed sash windows which we had opened because of the hot...

No air conditioning but there was a powerful fan which worked well in 25 degrees.
Our only gripe was no milk in the room for tea/coffee. We could have asked downstairs but just had black tea.
All in all, a good stay and we will return."

We order a vegetarian roast which is outstanding, food delicious and hot.
Plenty of parking.
Depending where the room is you can hear the traffic going past in the evening & mornings but overall alovely stay.
That's why we keep going back and also you have a choice of breakfast part of the deal."
