"An excellent and spacious car park - very welcome for travellers - a very good breakfast with good choice of hot and cold options - very friendly and helpful staff"
"The WiFi was very spotty and I couldn’t get on at all. Staff however helped with signing me onto the staff WiFi.
Mattress was very soft. The window - painted over - was not good as there was no way of seeing what the weather was like, especially as we were in a room at the very end of the corridor.
Luckily there was a heater as the radiator wasn’t working.
All this being said, the hotel is in an excellent position - right next to the station."
"Unfortunately this was very poor.
When I arrived in my room after 8pm the balcony door was wide open, on a chilly windy October evening - so the room was cold with insects flying around from the neighbouring lake. The TV did not have any channels working, and when I went to reception to ask about this and the door being left open I was told ‘this is all out of our hands’ with no offer of alternative room or reduction in the price - given they advertised 22 channels on being available this is...
"Excellent hotel in lovely historical grounds amazing value (dinner included in price - 3 course meal). Food very good, bar nice. Parking on site. Just outside Dumfries town centre. A former hospital site, which is also a University campus - lovely grounds for a walk"
"The only positive from our stay, if it didn’t
Happen, would have actually been a blessing . The front desk agreed to help us check in later than possible by leaving key in lockbox. Unfortunately, same desk clerk told us hotel was in Dumfries which has a road with a similar which led u s to council housing at midnight. Once we discovered the error we have another 1 hour 15 minute ride to “hotel”. Upon arriving, key was in lockbox, room was large but beds were from the 19th century, incredibly...
"Honestly one of if not THE worst hotels I have stayed in.
Decor:
Fresh in the 70's and I don't think it's been touched since. Threadbare carpets, wood chip wallpaper and greeted from behind a glass screen.
Lights didn't work in the room, the bathroom didn't looks clean, pipework all on display, grimly looking walls.
A filthy looking couch in the room and a TV that was maybe from the 90's on the wall.
Beds:
The memory foam mattress has forgotten... it kept sinking until we got to the...
"A very clean and well equipped room - limited parking but perfectly adequate - disappointing lack of breakfast - rice crispies and cormflakes don't do it!
Very good dinner and bar facilities"
"Unfortunately another disappointing night at the Inn. Went for a meal, again staffing issues with chefs resulting in quite a few things not being available. I thought there was a wedding function going on as every now and then loud music would blast through the restaurant area but it was just the music coming from the kitchen area as the doors swung open and closed. Sadly in need of a makeover."
"The room was lovely but the sink in the en-suite was tiny & hard to get a wash or clean your teeth in without getting water everywhere. The front of the sink unit was already water damaged. The shower was good & easy to use.
The lady who greeted us was very helpful & friendly especially as we forgot to take our key out with us & had to ask her to let us in to our room. Nothing seemed like too much trouble for her. There was a good choice for breakfast which was cooked to order"
"We stayed just the one night. The staff were very friendly and eager to provide good service. We enjoyed a pleasant drink on the lovely patio overlooking the river followed by a tasty meal in the bar. Breakfast was excellent . Our room was fairly basic with quite a small ensuite . The WiFi was good. We were pleased with our stay which represented good value."
"I enjoy my stay at the Golden Lion. The food is good and the staff are helpful. The room was clean but found the ensuite rather tight for space especially with the step to the shower."
