"The hotel and staff were lovely. The breakfast excellent. Parking free road side, but very limited."

"Booked an ensuite room but my room didn't have a bathroom and had to use the shared bathrooms. No staff was on site and had to call to check in. Opening the door to the room requires one hand to turn the electronic lock and the other hand to turn the doorknob. This is inconvenient when you're carrying stuff in your hand."

When I reported these legitimate safety hazards, the owner/manager confronted me and my young child in person during checkout. He was aggressive and intimidating, threatening me with 'trespassing' and...

"Nice rooms. Bathroom too small for me unfortunately. Pub looks a bit tired and could do with a makeover. Steps to rooms are metal fire escape outside at the back but treads not deep enough so be careful walking down them. Good atmosphere."

Things could be improved if they had the following, welcome pack giving WiFi details etc, better equipped kitchen I.e tea towel, bin and more crockery, bathroom could do with bath mat and bedroom could do with bedside cabinet with bedside lamp "

"We can't fault this hotel. Staff are amazing, very helpful with recommendations on places to see. Next visit to York I'll be booking here. Parking isn't the easiest to find, we had to ring the hotel. The member of staff gave brilliant directions and even offered to stand on the street if needed. "
