Experience the bars, adventure, and riverfront in Gold River!

Strathcona Provincial Park is British Columbia's oldest park designated in 1911 and located at almost the exact centre of Vancouver Island. The park is approximately 250,000 hectares of rugged mountains, lakes and rivers, trails for all skill levels, waterfalls, campgrounds, and more importantly off the grid so no wifi. From the campground, it is about a 90 minute drive into the park with narrow twisty roads and pitch black at night so use caution when driving at night. The wildlife often found in this park are cougars, wolves, bears, fox, and birds of many species. Snow remains on the mountains year round and is a popular spot for fishing. With a history dating back 380 million years, it has a history of violent volcanic eruptions. Buttle Lake and Forbidden Plateau inside the park offer a variety of visitor friendly developments, but the rest of the park remains untouched for those who are seeking a more wild and natural experience. Worth the trip.
