"I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Glendive, MT and was disappointed by an experience that fell well below the standards I expect from the brand.
There were some positives. The breakfast was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel offered the amenities we needed. Unfortunately, the property itself showed signs of poor maintenance. The pool towels were low quality, there was a water fountain that was completely rusted out, and the lower jets in the hot tub were not functioning properly.
The most significant issue occurred at approximately 11:30 PM when the fire alarm sounded, forcing a full evacuation of the hotel. Police and firefighters responded, and guests endured roughly an hour of blaring alarms before being allowed back inside. First responders reportedly indicated the alarm was caused by an electrical issue and that similar incidents had happened there before multiple times.
This was especially difficult because our group included my aging parents, an elderly aunt, and my 5-year-old child. We were relying on a good night's sleep before an 8.5-hour drive the next morning, and the disruption made that impossible.
While I understand that unexpected issues can occur, the combination of maintenance concerns and a late-night evacuation due to what appears to be a recurring problem made for a very poor guest experience. Given the circumstances, I am requesting a refund or appropriate compensation for our stay."
