"Extremely local chinese hotel. English speaking staff were far and few. Staff all hesitant and not confident to deal with foreigners so the communication was a struggle. But everyone was nice and polite. The common areas are not well maintained (i.e. lobby) so if you are looking for an upscale experience this is not your place. Most importantly the operations and management of the place is very poor. Everyone was all over the place. It was a mess. The team couldn’t manage the guests and it affected our enjoyment and experience."

"Dali Taoxi Secret Manor is easily one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The whole place feels like paradise with its beautiful gardens, and looking out at the mountains every morning was just stunning. My room was amazing and very well thought out. It had a fantastic bed, a wonderful bathroom, and a nice little courtyard. My spot right next to the main hall was perfect, and the mountain view from the room was incredible. Breakfast was great every morning—always fresh, delicious, and consistent. The location is also very good. It is an easy 10-minute walk past some nice old shops right to the gate of Dali Old Town, so it’s close to everything but still quiet. The best part of all was the staff. They really know what they are doing. They were warm, helpful, and genuine, but they also knew when to give you your space and when to offer help. A truly wonderful place. I couldn't have asked for a better stay."

"It was a good stay for us, the room was clean, staff very friendly, but if you are a non smoker, there's second hand smoke in the breakfast area or common areas, which is typical of most properties as the staff smoke. The breakfast is suited for Chinese travelers, so if you are accustomed to a western style breakfast, you won't find it here."

"The hotel was very clean and the gentleman working behind the front desk was very friendly and tried his very best to help with questions we had about traveling around Dali. The hotel is right in the middle of Dali Ancient City, so if that's what you want the location is excellent. It's a bit of a ride to the train station, but Didi's are very affordable. The hotel is very hard to find and the translation for the name of the hotel from English to Mandarin doesn't give the right name of the hotel. It took us awhile to find the hotel and even our DiDi driver from the airport didn't know the name of the hotel, somehow we found it. It's a small boutique hotel with clean rooms, comfortable bed, and breakfast made to order. Overall it was a good stay for the price."
