La Rioja may be Spain's most famous wine-producing region, but the Penedès area near Barcelona is also home to some excellent wine. The Jean Leon Wineries are small but have beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The wines are also delicious! My personal favorite was the Vinya Gigi Chardonnay (named after Jean Leon's daughter), even though I don't typically like white wines very much. If you're staying in Barcelona, you can be happily wine tasting in the Penedès region in under an hour's drive.
