La Camelina - our spacious and fully equipped holiday flat is practical in layout, yet elegant in appearance. It offers a wonderful view of Lake Maggiore, the mountains around Monte Tamaro and the Magadino plain. The flat is accessible at ground level as the top unit of a cleverly arranged, Mediterranean-style terraced property. It is ideal for couples or families of up to 5 people and offers you the perfect base for discovering the beauties of the Locarnese and relaxing in a private atmosphere. Enjoy the peace and quiet at the end of the road at the top of Contra, right at the start of the hiking trail. An environment that invites you to explore.
Inside, you will find a comfortably furnished living area that leaves nothing to be desired (the gallery is private and not accessible to tenants). Two bedrooms with partially accessible fitted wardrobes ensure an undisturbed night's sleep. Both bathrooms, one en suite to the larger bedroom with a large bathtub and one with a shower, offer sufficient comfort and privacy for all guests. La Camelina is also suitable for winter - the underfloor heating throughout the flat ensures this. A pedestal fan provides refreshment on warmer days, and thanks to the elevated position (580 metres above sea level) the temperatures feel more pleasant than on the valley floor. The modern equipment also includes a ceramic hob, a Nespresso coffee machine, a kettle and a dishwasher - everything you need for self-catering. In addition to the beautifully situated pool, entertainment is provided by the smart TV and the proximity to the mountain landscape and nature right on your doorstep.
The outdoor area of this wonderful retreat leaves nothing to be desired. A private terrace with large sun blinds and an additional small, weather-protected balcony invite you to enjoy the idyllic tranquillity and fresh air. The communal pool area is a real highlight. Wonderfully situated, it is deep enough on one side to take a dip and on the other side there is a slightly deeper toddler area. PLEASE NOTE: There is no supervision, i.e. pool users are responsible for themselves and especially for their underage children. In summer there are also bees at the edge of the pool, which cannot be prevented. They are not aggressive, but children and allergy sufferers in particular should be aware of this. The pool is usually open from Easter to mid-October (please check with us in advance if necessary). It is NOT heated. In summer (July/October), weather permitting, it is 22 to 25 degrees, in the off-season it is usually a little cooler due to the weather.
The location of our holiday flat, at the top of Contra, is simply unbeatable. It is best reached by car via the neighbourhood road. The accessibility by train and bus is worth considering for fit people who want to consciously do without a car and who are confident enough to walk the last 15 to 20 minutes up the stairs (100m difference in altitude) from the village centre. There are 2 modern full-suspension electric bikes for hire (CHF 75/week each), which allow you to explore Tenero and the Locarnese without breaking a sweat.
The flat is located directly on the edge of the path to beautiful hiking destinations and offers everything that makes for a perfect holiday experience: peace and relaxation, picturesque surroundings, easy accessibility, sporting activities at the pool or while hiking, the best shopping facilities in Tenero (grocery shops also open on Sundays), an attractive cultural offering in Locarno (Moon&Stars, International Film Festival, etc.) and Ascona (Jazz Festival, etc.), 3 golf courses within 10 km and much more. The picturesque village centre of Contra can be reached on foot in 500 metres, via one of the typical stairways (600 steps, some fitness is required - or you can conveniently take the car or the e-bikes you have brought or rented). There is a well-known grill restaurant (Osteria Ferriroli; booking recommended). For sports enthusiasts, the beach, Lake Maggiore with its many opportunities for water sports, minigolf and the national sports centre in Tenero are not far away. The cable car station in Orselina in the direction of Cimetta can be reached in 10 minutes by car or 20 minutes by bike. Discover the impressive mountain world on the Cimetta with views as far as the highest mountain in Switzerland, Monte Rosa, which is ideal for hiking, biking and adventure.
