St Mary's church in South Walsham
The former church of St Lawrence Perhaps the reason for there being two churches in close proximity to each other can be explained with the layout of paths and lanes, which may have made it convenient for worshippers of the two adjacent parishes to share a common churchyard. The former church of St Lawrence was gutted by fire in 1827 and after having been struck by lighning, its tower fell in 1971. The ruins have been restored and now serve as the parish hall. The ruined tower is surrounded by a sacristy garden planted with herbs. For more detailed information see http://www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/swalshamlawrence/swalshamstlawrence.htm
