About this property
Merging Waters - Native Stone, couples cabin in the Ouachita Mts-with STARLINK
Merging Waters is a gated one bedroom two bath cabin. The back of the cabin looks toward Big Eagle Creek. The back yard had a covered patio with an open air deck off the loft bedroom. It is situated on 7+ acres just off of US Highway 259 in the Ouachita Mountains, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the United States. On the property is a one-of-a-kind, split-level native stone cabin, ( approximately 1075 ft.²) whose rock walls date to the 1950’s.
The entry is a new 256 sq ft. addition including an 8 X 18’ breezeway with screened patio doors, flanked by a downstairs bathroom with shower on one end and a laundry room for staff cleaning and sanitation between guests. Guests doing 6+ day stays will be allowed to access the laundry room/ folding room upon arrangement)
A custom-made spiral oak staircase leads to the sleep loft bedroom and en-suite bathroom. There is one queen size bed and the bath has a shower with handheld wand or rain shower heads options.
From the dormer, french doors open onto an elevated open-air deck. It has a beautiful view of the mixed deciduous and evergreen native forest, as well as one of the two creeks that merge on the property.
An outside staircase decends into the fenced backyard. Big Eagle is a beautiful spring-fed creek behind the cabin with easy access for fishing. It also has an incredible deepwater hole. A little further downstream, but still on Merging Waters property, Cucumber Creek merges with it.
The main floor open-concept room with cathedral ceilings has a custom-built spiral staircase separating the lounging area from the self-catering kitchen area. The lounging area is complete with leather couch containing double-recliners, a built-in bookshelf, flat screen TV with Dish but no pay-per-view. There is an oak Armoire for guests convenience so a lot of luggage doesn’t have to be carried up the spiral staircase. It has room for both hanging and folded clothes storage and also houses various games. Please note: there is a 250 lb total weight limit on the stair case, so if the couples combined weight exceeds that, they will need to only have one person on it at a time.)
Just beyond the Armoire beneath a large picture window, is an oak library desk/table with lamp -large enough for a laptop computer. It also contains information about sites to see in and around the area and a journal where guests can add reflections on stay.
On the other side of the staircase is a complete kitchen, with full size appliances, including electric stove and oven, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with ice in the door, microwave, dishwasher, (regular coffee pot and Keurig-, with complimentary coffee and tea) and an oak dining table. There is also a soapstone stove but due to the age of the chimney, it is for ornamental purposes only (No fires).
However just outside the back kitchen door leading into the backyard, is a covered patio and further in the yard a fire pit with bench so our couple guests can snuggle while enjoying a nice crackling fire with the wood provided in the backyard fire rack. There is also a charcoal grill in the backyard (guests should bring charcoal).
Just beyond the back gate is a fish cleaning station for any anglers. Please note that the hose for the fish cleaning station hooks up on the side of the house. FYI - We are on a rural water system (not well water) so please be sure the water is turned off and hose disconnected after using the fish cleaning area. Please dump any fish waste back to the creek to feed the ones that got away😊, rinse bucket and return for the next lucky angler.
Fish caught in the creek include walleye, small mouth, sun perch, pike. Fishing may be good or bad depending on a lot of factors including whether the river otters have been through recently. Good news is, if our guests happen to be here at the same time as the otters, it can be just as entertaining to watch them teaching their babies how to fish as catching one of your own.
Please note the following: There is no pay-per-view and No Internet as our location does not have a reliable tower internet service. Therefore we have installed a universal cell signal booster, that increases signal on phones that get a signal allowing guests whose carriers have coverage in this area to use their own cell internet connection and/or bring their mobile jet packs. Merging Waters is a couples-only cabin not suitable for children. No pets, parties, outside visitors or meetings are allowed. Also be advised: phone service may be spotty, depending on guests carriers and climatic conditions. Inside the cabin with the signal booster, carriers like Verizon AT&T and United Cellular generally have good to excellent signals. Older cell phones requiring 3G technology no longer receive signal because the area cell towers no longer support 3G.

Owner should be a super host!! Merging Waters was exactly what we expected and perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings!
Merging waters is a wonderful place to stay in southeast Oklahoma. The cabin is located on two beautiful creeks and we can't wait to come back during the summer months to fish and enjoy the swimming hole. We spent the April 8th eclipse on the bank with a great view and we also enjoyed watching the river otters.

Merging Waters is off the beaten path. Lovely cabin on beautiful property with creek a few steps from the cabin. Perfect location for people who like to hike, fish, or plan to take scenic drives through Kiamichi mountains. Exceptional host who is welcoming and accommodating. Highly recommend
We had the best time staying at Merging Waters. This was our 4th stay on our 4th Anniversary. Janet is a wonderful and caring host. She is always available to make sure you have everything you need. The cabin is always clean and the beautiful property well kept. Many fish were caught and relaxation was achieved in the great outdoors. We will be returning for our 5th Anniversary, and could not imagine being anywhere else. Thank you so much Janet for sharing your property with us.
Our stay was absolutely amazing everything I thought it would be from the pictures. We spent our 24 year anniversary At the merging waters and it was everything I expected.
We plan on returning very soon and send family to this most amazing secluded vacation.
We would drink coffee while we fished.
This beautiful home had an amazing story behind it, and visiting with the owner and seeing her love for her gorgeous property made it so much more enjoyable for us.
You would not be disappointed in this property, I was worried about the review with the road noise, but I will tell you I live out in the country with zero road noise and this property did not bother us at all!
We had zero complaints❤️
We had a wonderful visit. The property is just beautiful. We hope to visit again in the spring.

Loved the view off the back deck in the morning while drinking coffee. Enjoyed fishing the creek behind the house. The home was quit comfortable as well.
Me and my boyfriend stayed here and will definitely return! It’s a beautiful cabin and a beautiful property to stay at. It’s quiet and away from people and there’s lots of land to discover. Loved reading in the hammock and listening to the sounds of the creek and the forest. It was so awesome we never even left the property!
Thank you Janet for sharing your beautiful property with us. We enjoyed everything but our favorite part was spending time fishing and enjoying the water. This was our 2nd stay and we already made our next reservation on the drive home. Can’t wait until the next trip to “our fishing place”.
Janet was very nice and provided a lot of information. Really enjoyed the cabin, it was clean and comfortable and had some impressive woodwork and great old rock walls. The property is beautiful with the rivers coming together. Saw a bald eagle flying over the river at one point. All in all very relaxing and worth the trip. Thanks for a great stay!
The cabin was perfect - quiet, comfortable, relaxing and very clean. The owner treats the property very well. She has put in a lot of little touches that makes the cabin so comfortable and enjoyable. My husband and I spent four nights. We visited the local state parks and went fishing. We saw a large eagle on the creek and deer in the yard. I would pick this cabin if I was going back to the area. We loved our time there.
This was our 3rd stay at this beautiful property and we loved every minute. Janet is so kind and will make sure your stay is as described if not better. We enjoy hearing about the history of this property and soaking in all of the Rustic beauty. Most of our time was spent by the water enjoying the peacefulness while fishing. Coming here has become a tradition for us and we are already booked for next year. Thank you Janet for sharing your beautiful place with us. See you soon
During a dry spell in Oklahoma, we climbed over hot rocks to see creek fish hunt dipping dragonflies at Merging Waters. The waters from the mountains are dry now, but the natural springs at Merging Waters never stop flowing. We could feel the cold spring water escape from the cracked crust of the earth! What a mighty vision of splendor within a single beatific locale. Thank you for sharing your blessing with the world, Janet.

Road noise was unbelievably loud.
The cabin was fine. The grounds were fine. The host was very attentive. We did not know that the cabins location was about 50 yards from the main highway. The traffic was constant all the way up til 1 am in the morning. We chose to leave early because of the road noise.
We enjoyed our stay at Merging Waters for our 1st Anniversary so very much.
The Property Owner was so kind and showed us around the property which was just as described if not better!
We spent most of our time at the creek fishing and relaxing. The fishing was amazing and the view was gorgeous.
If you are looking for a private place to disconnect from work and enjoy nature, this is your place! We did have spotty internet connection but were too busy enjoying our stay to even notice.
We enjoyed grilling some steaks after a full day at the creek and sitting at the fire pit listening to the nearby creek.
The property owner has put so much love and care into making the yard and property beautiful. The cabin was very nice, comfortable and the double headed rain shower was fantastic.
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin and property with us. We had the most amazing time and will be back to visit again.
The property was stunning. The cabin was very quaint, the landscape was gorgeous with the creeks behind the cabin and all the trees. The owner was so sweet, and we had some good conversation with her. The only drawback, in my opinion, was the proximity to the road, as there was some traffic noise. This may not bother most people, since you could just hop on the road and go wherever you want. I usually prefer a little more seclusion. But all in all, the cabin was great. I just wish it hadn't rained the whole time.
We had a wonderful weekend getaway at this cabin! The cabin was so cozy and clean…the pics don’t do it justice. It was perfectly nestled between the trees, not too far from town but just far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle. Janet was friendly, easy to communicate with, and great stories of the history of the cabin. We can’t wait to come back!
So happy to have found this beautiful cabin in the woods. The cabin has stone walls which keeps it nice and cool even during the hit summer days. Everything in the home works great. Janet was a super helpful, friendly and is literally a phone call away if you need anything. My wife and I enjoyed the property but our favorite moment was sitting on the top balcony while the cool rain fell the second afternoon we were there. I love this cabin and hope to return next summer.
The small old house/cabin was too charming and it was very comfortable inside. Everything that u needed was in there. The property outside was very beautiful and the two small rivers and clear water were very spectacular. Caught some Sun perch and a couple of black bass. The property is very secluded as far as other houses being around. Hwy 259 is close by but we didn’t ever notice the noise or anything when we was inside or at the back of the property by the creeks. Very nice owner, nice cabin and nice land. Would go back again. Charming piece of heaven!! Randall
We enjoyed every moment from stepping out of our vehicle and hearing birds to fishing. The days were quiet and secluded, our own little slice of heaven away from anyone. The water was cool and peaceful. We wished this was our property so we never had to leave. We took some amazing drives through the mountains to see some amazing views. Went for dinner in the small town of talihina and saw deer and other wildlife on the drive back. We brought our atv and hit the nearby trails for some more amazing views. Come with food as there is not much nearby making it amazing!!! The host was friendly and offered suggestions.
We loved every minute!!
The property owner met us at our arrival and showed us around and answered all our questions. The cabin was very clean and cozy.
We were able to communicate via text message with owner and she responded promptly. Just as described make sure to pack everything because there is NO Walmart just down the street. We had a great time even though it rained most of the week. We did have an evening where we were able sit out in lawn chairs and enjoy the river. We would definitely stay there again.
We had the most wonderful stay at this peaceful cabin. The water is beautiful and calming and we thoroughly enjoyed our time getting away from the city! We had everything we needed for cooking all of our own meals at the cabin and highly recommend this place. Janet is the sweetest and was an excellent communicator! I would love to return!!
