As we wandered through extensive grounds of shady palms and wild olive trees, delightfully criss-crossed by the stone walls so typical of Menorca, we were instantly charmed by the rustic ambience and seclusion of this attractive island home. When we then stepped out through the back gate and realised that one of the area’s most renowned restaurants is just 100m away in the picturesque village of Torret, and the shops, restaurants and pretty town squares of Sant Lluis only a 900m walk from here, we could not imagine a more ideal setting for a holiday. Situated just outside the typical whitewashed village of Torret and off the road that leads from Sant Lluis to the island’s south-eastern beaches, La Casa en el Pinar is perfectly placed for exploring this picturesque corner of the island. Whilst a pleasant stroll to either the two village restaurants or a wider range of amenities in Sant Lluis will reveal a choice of venues for dining out and local shopping, the sandy beach of Punta Prima with its bustling ambience and promenade of cafes and restaurants is just a 5 minute drive away.
There can be no doubt, however, that this is a property at which restful days at home will also feature strongly on the holiday wish-list. Sitting amidst the greenery of its rustic grounds, the house oozes charm through its walls of traditional local stone, vaulted brick ceilings and exposed wooden beams, all of which are strikingly complemented by an eye-catching wall of floor-to-ceiling glazing and numerous patio doors providing a seamless connection to the outside.
Through the glass façade of windows and sliding doors that lines one end of the living room, the swimming pool can be seen outside, glistening invitingly. Surrounded by a selection of lawns and terraces, an in-built barbecue and another bougainvillea-strewn terrace for outdoor dining, this is the focal point of the outdoor area, whilst a wander through the grounds will reveal other shaded corners to which to retreat.
