We were floored when we first saw the view and the room! It is so special and our first night was quiet and romantic. The grounds are gorgeous. The staff was exceptional! We only had a couple of complaints and when we had the complaints, the staff was eager to help in any way possible. Pedro, the owner, could not have been better. The only warning I have, is make sure you email the owner yourself! Hotels.com did not forward my reservation to the hotel, so we had tons of trouble getting to the lodge. You must drive over a long dirt road full of rocks, which was terrible in a rental car and which Pedro will avoid by picking you up at the nearest paved road, if he knows you are coming. Such a magical environment, all the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Allen’s passion for the forest and animals is contagious and encyclopaedic ; we learned so much. The property is surrounded by beautiful forests in all directions, and you eat breakfast watching hummingbirds and toucans. It’s truly incredible. Were 3 days of rest, peace, tranquility, fresh air, excellent food, hiking and excellent treatment by all hotel staff. It really was much more than I expected and a nice find.

The hotel is located on top of a mountain with great expansive views. Its very cool at night but warm during the day. The cabins are cozy but have cooking facilities. The pool is refreshing. Javier does a great job making guests feel comfortable. Breakfasts were included and very tasty. There's a lot to do in the area. Poas Volcano, Grecia, and Sarchi is closer. Highly recommended.

The beach was amazing! The cabins are very private and comfortable. There are monkeys and toucans on site. The staff was fantastic. So friendly! We got a flat tire and they pointed it out to us and immediately changed it for us...in the dark! Exceptional service! Highly recommended! We will be back!

I loved this property; it was perfect for our 5-day break over Christmas in December 2018. There are 5 cabins, in a row, in an absolutely beautiful garden with lush tropical plants and flowers, and there is a restaurant attached, which has a wonderful ambiance, and which serves really great Mexican food, using fresh, local and home-cooked ingredients (cooked by Frederico). This is our second time at Chetica. Each room has a unique, themed design. We have stayed in Seville and this time in “Big Bear” which reminds you of a mountain cabin. The rooms have big bathrooms and a kitchenette with a coffeemaker and coffee provided. The breakfast is delicious. You are in the hills with fresh air and beautiful gardens. It is very convenient if you are driving to the Caribbean side and don’t want to drive that road at night. The only small problem that we have run into is...

Great place for relax and detox time. Eco-friendly lodge with awesome gardens, trails and a waterfall. Bungalows have a great view to the mountains. Excellent and healthy food. Road requieres a 4WD, but it is NOT dangerous, just bumpy.

The place is located very close to one of the two entrances of the Bahia Ballena National Park. The staff was very helpful and willing to assist in any of our requirements. The place is well maintained and very clean. The manager was very professional and kind with us.

Jungle surroundings, with lots of butterflies, birds, and monkies. A memorable relaxing spot.

Fantastic stay. I had the sunrise cabin. Gorgeous views, modern updated cabin yet full of character and comfort. The breakfast was simple but delicious and perfect to start the day. The owners and entire team were extremely friendly and helpful beyond the scope of just standard hospitality.

The rooms are basic, but you don't want to spend a lot of time there anyway. The feeling of being in the Garden of Eden draws you outside to the rushing little river, the dozens of hummingbirds zooming around the well-stocked feeders, the lovely grounds and the selection of hiking trails. The focus here is on conscious conservation and nature study and enjoyment, but the breakfast (included) was excellent and the dinner (extra) good.
