West portal, Sapperton Short Tunnel, near Daneway This is a little complicated. The Sapperton tunnel through which the Swindon to Gloucester railway passes, starts at SO949018. The railway leaves the tunnel at this point - for 70 metres. It then re-enters the next section of the tunnel, still in this square. The stretch of tunnel just described is known as Sapperton Short tunnel and it is about 300 metres long.
