The town of Rio Marina is located on the eastern side of the Elba island, nestled gently in a small inlet surrounded by hills. In this area of the island, the coast that stretches from Rio Marina to Cavo is called the "Shining coast,” or “Costa che brilla” in Italian. This nickname was given to honor the almost dreamlike glint that comes from the black mining dust

An unlikely place in the mountains of the Elba island where I like to stop by when mountain biking, the Tonietti mausoleum was in fact never used as the family grave it was intended for. There is an amazing view of the sea and the island if you manage to climb the cast iron spiral staircase which is in poorly shape and leads to the second floor.
The Mausoleum Tonietti in Cavo is a majestic square shaped tower that stands tall and has a marble stairway at the entrance. It was originally built as a private tomb for the Tonietti family. The mausoleum however never did become a burial place for the family because permission to have it buried inside was never granted.

The internal cast iron spiral staircase, in very poor condition, takes you to a breathtaking of the Tyrrhenian coastline.
