Belgian Air Force Days – Kleine Brogel - 8 & 9 September 2018
One of the eye-catchers on the air show was the Ukrainian Sukhoi Su-27.
The Su-27 (NATO code name ‘Flanker’) is an amazingly agile interceptor that is among the best of the world in dogfighting, despite its impressive size. It was developed during the 1980s in what was then the Soviet-Union in response to American fighters like the F-15, F-16 and F-18. The SU-27 is the pride of the Ukrainian air force, a country that is part of the ‘Partnership for Peace’ with NATO and is as such also a partner to the Belgian air force.

The Belgian F-16 fleet has 60 aircraft, of which 48 are assigned to NATO. These aircraft are centralized on two bases, Kleine Brogel and Florennes. The F-16 is a multifunctional fighter plane suitable for defensive, offensive and reconnaissance missions. Thanks to the new electronic defence equipment and a far-reaching Mid Life Update program (MLU), the F-16 remains (provisionally) operational.
In addition to missions in Europe and North Africa, Belgian F-16 carried out thousands of sorties in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria.

The RAF Falcons are the parachute display team of the Royal Air Force. All members are instructors at n° 1 Parachute Training School. The team is best known because of their ‘stack’, during which they descend in a formation of 11 jumpers and spiral down elegantly in tight formation before landing precisely on target. #TroveOnTuesday
