Archer Hotel Tysons

"Archer is an independent hotel, so I was excited to see what they built vs the cookie cutter Marriotts, Hyatts and Hiltons. The pros: Nice room Great desk staff and valets Convenient Fresh appearance The cons: maid service a bit inconsistent valet-only parking odd hours for a hotel restaurant/bar Don't get me wrong, the plusses outweighed the minuses. I'd certainly stay there again or try one in another town (they have 9 in the US). As a matter of fact we're headed back up in a couple weeks for a stay at Archer. But not there are a few things to iron out. Two things in particular. One, knowing it was valet-only was a bit confusing. It wasn't on the site. Are the valets paid a wage or do they expect tips? Do they pool tips or do you tip each one individually? And finally, valet is great when people of trickling in and out but when checkout time comes, waits go from 2 minutes to 30 minutes. Two, the towels and bathroom accoutrements were very good. However, when they cleaned they took the old towels, replaced the bath towels but not the face towels. We didn't notice until it was that evening and it wasn't worth having someone deliver the towels. Also it seemed like the room was reset for one person rather than two. Also, the bathroom door didn't close completely. But those are the kind of details that move a 5-star review to a 4-star. Again, all things considered, it's a great place in a great location."

"Poor start: door keys did not work. So the staff made new keys and they did not work either - the door look was broken. So they assigned us a new room quickly. The room itself was clean, well decorated, nice bed, and very clean bathroom. Also had a refigerated which worked great. I never did get the TV to work and their were no instructions on how to make it work. The breakfast was great! They did a very nice job on a good assortment of food and had a very nice room with a great atmosphere to eat in. The staff running the breakfast should be commended and rewarded for a great job! The location was excellent if you were doing anyting in the Fairfax VA are. But I definitely did not like the irritating speed bumps in the parking lot. Overall, a nice stay with some minor exceptions as noted."
