The Prairie Branch Loop trail goes right along the water on one side of the loop. This park is always full of bikers and as far as I can tell this is the only stretch of trail restricted to hikers, making it quieter and better for spotting wildlife than some of the more heavily traveled trails. Be aware that there are alligators in the park, so be careful if approaching the water's edge along the trail.
Temps in the 80's over Christmas weekend this year make for opportunities to spend time in the great State Parks system of Texas! I found this green, sunny scene along the prairie branch trail on December 23rd. Very strange to this Kansas girl to be sweating it in 80 degree weather on Christmas Eve eve!
