"There are not many places to stay in Wimborne. This is probably the best. Don’t expect elevators or lots of modern conveniences here. This is a 16th century hotel with narrow staircases and our room had beamed ceilings and a copper bathtub. What is great is that it is right in the won center and has enough free and secure parking so you don’t need to use a public carpark."

"Room was very clean and comfortable bed - staff were upbeat, really friendly and helpful. Parking was great and bar very pleasant atmosphere - enjoyed a good laugh playing Bingo. Good breakfast and evening meal."

"Absolutely lovely oasis of tranquility in the New Forest. We took our small dog and everything was catered for from bowls and towels in the room to a washing station and poo bags. Staff were amazing, busy but always helpful and chatty. Food was top notch, as were the cocktails and a lovely breakfast. Can’t fault it, oh and there was air con in the room……. Thank god!"

"If you want somewhere to stay that is reasonable in price and puts together a good evening meal and breakfast with good beer behind the bar then this is for you. One small drawback my satnav could not find the postcode!!"

"Had a wonderful stay - staff were very helpful, had a lovely large and clean room. Hotel is right on the main road through Lyndhurst and it could be a problem to some people but we were fine with it. There were no charging points for iPhone/ipad which would have been useful but again not a big problem. Would happily go back for another stay."

"The positives were the airy room and lovely garden. The big negative was the buffet breakfast which they proudly claim to be award-winning. The reality is that for a 4 star hotel, the quality and range of options was extremely poor. Too many short cuts and cost cutting. The veggie options were limitd and not displayed on the tables and there were no extras (eg crushed avocado) even if you were willing to pay a bit extra. There was no fruit yogurt in individual pots and no higher quality healthy...

"stayed for 1 week bed & breakfast. Checked in OK. Room size OK, but overlooking car-park with main road 50 metres away. Room furnished with freestanding pine double wardrobe accommodating full-sized ironing board, electric iron and hairdryer. space divided into 2, left side fore and aft clothes hanging rail (6 hangers),right side 3 shelves 2 drawers. The wardrobe double doors warped, difficult to open & close making loud squealing noise! the drawers were off their broken runners and operated...

"Nice little bar with good outside space great location a Ross from open forest. Room smelt of dog after a while and the room needs a new lick of paint as does other areas .not a bad place just a little tlc needed .also breakfast couldn't see a price anywhere so didn't pre order one as you have to do that. Would of been better table service"

"Lovely comfy room, fan provided during the extreme heat. Lovely small, mostly shaded, terrace at the back of the hotel. Delicious breakfast and very helpful, friendly staff. There is one set of steep, narrow stairs to get to the rooms although help was offered to carry up our case."

"We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Avalon B&B. Nick was a superb host and the property as a whole was very clean and tidy. The rooms had everything we needed for our short stay and the breakfast options were great. The full English breakfast Nick cooked on our 2nd morning was the ideal start to the day for our long drive back up to Manchester. The town with restaurants, bars and shops is only a 4/5 min walk with the New Forrest also close by. All in all a great place to stay and would highly...

"Good location, 2 pubs very near and a 5 minute walk to Lyndhurst. Could have been a bit cleaner (only a couple of cobwebs on a light fitting nothing serious or off putting) but good for a reasonably priced Hotel. Reception friendly and helpful. We will go there again. P.S. Its very dog friendly."
