When you are interested in military history, the fortresses of the defense line of Amsterdam are a must see. Build around 1900, it consists of some 46 fortresseses, batteries, dikes, dams and locks. The enemy was partly kept out by inundating the land outside the defense line. The invention of the airplane was a real spoiler for military strategists... "Very close to Amsterdam Train Station. About a 15m walk. You can catch a train from the airport. We trained and flew out of London afterwards and caught the Eurostar Train. Then walking 2 min straight from the front of the station is the srart of a tourist area.. Hotel.is quiet as not close to a main road. Great views as basically on the water. Very friendly and helpful staff as well!"
