"We had a lovely stay. The staff were very hospitable and dinner on both nights was a brilliant experience. The private onsens were gorgeous. Highly recommend for a traditional Japanese stay."

"The staff was so hospitable and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was the best we ate in Japan, and cooked with love. The outdoor onsen was heavenly. A visit I will never forget."

"I chose this hotel so I could do laundry in the middle of a 2 week trip. It took eight hours for drying and clothes still were soaking wet and I had to improvise by air drying on the balcony. No one could help at the front desk, and the translators app and English instructions provided by the hotel said I chose the right settings. Very frustrating. It would have been five stars except for this issue. "
"We had a wonderful stay. Beautiful hotel, comfortable bed, Fully stacked room with a washing machine. Walking distance to sights and restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast had lots of options. Loved having a hotel with an Onsen.
"
"The hotel was lovely, however, the mattress felt like sleeping on a slab of concrete, firm is an understatement. This one is not for me, but i'm sure for many others. It will be perfect."
"I loved this hotel, I would have given it a 5 star except for Barman on Thursday night 19th March who was very offhand bordering on rude. Everything else was excellent."
"We had a fantastic stay at Wat Hotel & Spa Hida Takayama and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Takayama.
The location is super convenient—just a short walk from the station and within easy reach of the old town, which made exploring really easy. The rooms were surprisingly spacious (especially compared to typical Japanese hotels), very clean, and incredibly comfortable.
One of the highlights was definitely the onsen and spa facilities. They were beautifully maintained, relaxing, and such a nice way to unwind after a day of sightseeing. I also loved the option of private baths—it made the experience feel even more special.
A really standout moment for us was arriving to find a thoughtful honeymoon setup in our room, including a handwritten-style card, flowers, and balloons. It was such a lovely surprise and made us feel genuinely welcomed and celebrated—such a special touch that we didn’t expect.
The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay, and everything felt very well organised. The breakfast had a good mix of Japanese and Western options and was a great way to start the day.
Overall, this hotel offers amazing value for money with great facilities, comfort, and location. We’d absolutely stay here again!"
