The calm before the weir The Derwent flows over the first of three weirs near Milford. It is this one which would have provided the head of water for the Mill a few hundred yards or so downstream. Both ends of the weir have the remains of sluice mechanisms. The majority of the abstraction would have taken place on the far side and water still flows through the race there as can be seen as it rejoins the river downstream of the next two weirs just south of the bridge (in SK3545).
Track and path The track up to Chevinend farm from Chevin Road.
Cleared cottages On the 1940 map this area was once cottages, on the walls items such as fireplaces can still be made out.
