Lydiard House
Lydiard House
Lydiard House, Lydiard Park , near Swindon Lydiard House, an 18th Century Mansion House, set in 260 acres of beautiful parkland situated on the outskirts of Swindon.
Lydiard House, Lydiard Park, Swindon; The house and its 260 acre (105 hectare) estate were bought by Swindon Corporation from the then owners in 1943 for, as best I can recall reading, a four-figure sum. It must be worth millions now. It is a Palladian house with a history extending back centuries. More can be read here http://www.swindon.gov.uk/leisuresport/parksandgardens/parkslydiard/leisure-parkslydiardhouse.htm and here http://www.swindonweb.com/leis/placlydi0.htm The prime mover behind the purchase was David Murray John, Town Clerk of the Council from 1939 to 1974.
