"Beautiful property. Pulling in the drive is stunning. The interior is well decorated. The building itself is obviously older and it shows in certain areas: the toilet was unreliable, small cracks, bit of discolouration on tiles, and the pool floor isn’t sealed well so it has bumps and bounces.
The room we booked for a family was perfect. The separation wall made the room feel much bigger and the kids loved having their own space. The TV selection was very basic and the TVs themselves were very slow.
The staff were all wonderful and very helpful.
I did have to ask a lot of questions as some information wasn’t given initially but it wasn’t too inconvenient. The swim times for children was a bit annoying because we had to plan our day around it but I understand why they’re in place. We just would have liked a bit more freedom to choose when we wanted to go rather than set times. The bed we had wasn’t super comfortable, the mattress slanted on the edge. The pillows desperately need an update. They were very flat and offered no support. However the kids single beds were comfortable for them.
The restaurant menu looked good but was expensive so we chose to eat elsewhere. Except for dessert which we did get through room service. The sticky toffee pudding was top 3 best we ever had.
The grounds are vast and great for a wander.
Overall, good stay. We would stay again as the experience itself outweighed any issues we had."
"We were hesitant to book over a weekend but were assured by the 11pm closing time that it wouldn't be too much of an issue; that wasn't the case. When we checked into the 'cosy country pub' we soon learned that the closing times listed online were not correct. We were told we were to pay when we check out, and were shown up to our room.
At first the room seemed fine, if a little warm. First problem, the window didn't open. There was an inner double glazed unit which did open, but an outer sash window which didn't. The space between the two windows was THICK with mould, it clearly hadn't been cleaned in months.
We soon discovered that the floor was filthy and the toilet seat was both loose, and clearly didn't fit (potentially dangerous).
Despite this, we tried to make the most of it. To be fair the food and drinks we had were decent, can't fault that.
Our room must have been directly above one of the speakers, I see other reviews describing a quiet stay but that is NOT our experience. Music was thumping until 12 on the Friday night, and 1:30 on the Saturday night. Not ideal in an already hot and stuffy room.
Then came checking out. No staff anywhere, we called the pub, no use. We called the number provided by Expedia. No answer. We tried the emergency contact number provided in the room, who informed us she hasn't worked there for months.
After 2 hours we got hold of the manager, who informed us payment is taken automatically when we check out. Honestly, can't recommend."
"Nice hotel with good parking. Staff are very pleasant and the hotel is kept very clean. Lounge areas and restaurant are very comfortable. Food was very good, lamb pie of the day was delicious and cooked to order English breakfast was excellent. "
"Had such a fantastic one night stay at the middle house. From the moment we walked in there was a friendly welcome for us all including our dog. The room was ready and was so clean. Smelt amazing when we walked in so fresh. There were lovely little touches for our dog including bowl, and doggie prosecco. We asked if we they had gluten free options in the menu to find that basically the whole menu was gluten free nearly - amazing as I’m coeliac - one of the owners is too so felt safe. We had a fantastic 3 course evening meal they were all really well presented and delicious. Breakfast was equally as good with fantastic gluten free selection. We will most definitely be back and evening passing through will stop for food. All areas of the hotel are spotless and the attention to detail was fantastic you can see how hard the guys who own this place work and it shines through. The area it is situated in is beautiful too - we had never been to this area of Yorkshire before."
