"Absolutely beautiful hotel with a fantastic, relaxed atmosphere from the moment you arrive. The staff were superb throughout our stay, genuinely friendly, attentive, and nothing was ever too much trouble.
Perfect for couples looking for a peaceful and relaxing resort, with plenty of space to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. The location is also ideal, with lovely local restaurants and bars within easy reach. If you’re looking for something livelier, the nearest busy town is only around 4 miles away, and the hotel is more than happy to arrange a taxi for you.
A wonderful stay all round and somewhere we would happily return to."
"They offered us a fully new renovated room however was in front of hotel entrance. We saw ocean view from an angle.
The non smoking room we asked was fine but 2 neighbors smoked.
Biggest issue. No beach!!!!!! Lots of pools and hotel is more for families. Restaurants closed ala carte. Italian restaurant disorganized and food was awful. We left after 2 bites. Buffet closes at 9:30 pm they clear up at 9. Day buffet opens 12;30 and closes 2. No food left for late birds that go to beaches and shop or excursions. The grounds are kept clean and maintained. That’s why we gave it a good rating. Front desk disorganized upon checkin. No checkin counter. It’s a mess and you have to present your passport 3x cause 3 different people bounce you at around. This iberostar does not represent others we’ve been at. "
"Good facilities and comfortable sleep. Water pressure was fantastic. Just a block away from the beach. Made for a great choice to walk along the promenade into the city without breaking the bank."
"A good stay at the Aquila Porto Rethymno, with a good location and great sea views. The room was spacious and well-appointed with direct views over the beach and sea. Breakfast was good, with a solid range on offer. Lively location, central with easy walking access to the old town and harbour area."

10/10 Excellent
"Staff were so welcoming and accommodating. The facilities were so lovely and we even managed to book in to the spa (Cretan massage was just delightful) We were so sad to leave. "
"We were lucky enough to have booked a Mythica bungalow, and I couldn't recommend it enough. The private pool was cold but having the extra bit of privacy and somewhere quiet to relax with a perfect view of the beach and sea was wonderful. Being able to eat at the Eleftherna restaurant as many times as we wanted to due the plan we were on was fantastic and the highlight, with George and Syllas always looking after us! The spa and indoor pool were lovely, but when there were a couple days of rain it was full of children which disturbed the atmosphere. Also the indoor pool allegedly opens at 10am yet all the poolside loungers had gone by 9.55, I'm not sure why people were allowed to reserve like that. The outside at our bungalow would have been fine to sit at but there wasn't a solid roof covering, so everything was soaking which was a shame. Umbrellas or ponchos in the rooms would be a good idea, and just charge if they go missing like they do with the beach towels. All in all though it was fantastic, Maria was amazing and very helpful. We'd definitely like to return, but I did enjoy the quiet of the pre season and probably would prefer it to the busy period from mid May onwards! Just with more to do without noisy children around during the rainy days!"
