The Red Lion Hotel

The Red Lion Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"Really pleasantly surprised how well the Red Lion was presented. The check in desk was "oldy worldly" with a little check in window surrounded by stained glass. An old inn feel. Registration was mostly straight forward although as I had booked a double the IT system wanted to charge me for two breakfasts, but the staff realised the problem and sorted it later. I was in room number 4, Everything I needed was in the room and it was well presented, and looked clean and smart. The TV took a bit of working out and a simple instruction sheet may have helped. I was having a late afternoon lay on the bed and the music from the restaurant below was a little annoying. Could I suggest that the speaker by the fire door in the restaurant is moved or the volume reduced a little. Bed comfortable and warm. It did not look like I could turn the bedside lights off from the bed and had to hop out when it was lights out. Breakfast was Continental+, great value for £5.00. The evening meal was a delight, I have the Duck croquets and Oc Cheek pie with some seasoned potatoes and carrots. Honestly this was just divine and more people should just book a meal here if you are local and not staying overnight. Bit of a gem I would say. Kirsty and the team really looked after me. I've stopped in all the hotels in Spalding and can say that this is the best by far. Old world charm with great food in the heart of the town. The town needs a train service to Peterborough on a Sunday!"

Cley Hall Hotel

Cley Hall Hotel

8/10 Good
"My room was a lovely suite with its own kitchen and sofa. I think furniture lay out could be changed so you could watch TV from the sofa rather than just the bed. My TV didn’t work the first night but the staff fixed it the second night, and offered me another room if they couldn’t. Breakfast was nice and lots of choice. Hot food cooked fresh. The hotel is more central than I thought so easy to walk into town along the river or even to the large garden centre. A big downside is my room was in the annex on the ground floor with the car park right outside. I had to keep the curtains closed as cars and people were directly outside my window."

The Wenns Chop & Ale House

The Wenns Chop & Ale House

8/10 Good
"Stayed for one night on Saturday 17th October. The accommodation wasn't quite as expected, but a pleasant surprise. What I thought we were getting was a 'normal' double room. However, it was in fact a whole apartment overlooking the wonderful Minster. The accommodation was very spacious, warm, comfortable and close to all amenities. The actual building is rather old, which reflected on some of the fixtures and fittings. The windows were the original old sash type and actually opened. However, they didn't block out the sound from outside. Being a pub/restaurant, it was rather noisy late at night when folk were leaving and bidding one another farewell (which seemed to last until midnight) But all in all, a pleasant stay, at a reasonable cost. We will certainly return."

"Nice hotel great staff. Golf course and driving range on site. Nice big rooms but a little tired and in need of a refurbishment. Lack of electrical sockets. Showers need an update too."

The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel

8/10 Good
"The room itself was clean with nice bedding and towels. The top part of a bedside light kept flashing which meant turning it off. Also disappointing was that one side of the toilet seat bracket was loose which meant that the seat itself moved. It was a strange experience not seeing any staff. We did see a lady briefly who replenished the breakfast area."
