The authentic homesteading spirit, of Thomas Strick who was recognized as "one of the old timers in Julian" arriving in the area back in August 1884 and spending much of his life working the local mines of the Julian/Banner, an occupation he favored. His wife, Beatrice, an English immigrant, arrived via San Diego in 1896. She often recounted the challenging early days in Julian, and was known to cook meals occupants in the historic two room cement jail which is behind the home.
