Beautiful surroundings, and right next to the path that leads to the monkey park. We very much enjoyed the kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast. They were happy to explain what everything was and how to eat it, since a number of the dishes were unfamiliar to us (in particular with the breakfast). Went here March of 2016 and had an Amazing time. We arrived at the train & took a taxi to the ryokan [900¥], the staff was so nice they took in our luggage and we went to the snow monkeys [30 min inclined walk to the monkey park gate] or a quick 5 min taxi ride to the gate [900¥] the ryokan does offer a free shuttle at 11am to the monkey park, make sure not to miss that. The rooms were clean and quiet. The staff helped us find a private Onsen across the street due to our tattoos. It was awesome....

Delightfully friendly and kind hosts. Very clean place. Simple rooms, with everything you need, and shared washrooms. Nice breakfast. The shuttle to the lift is nice (although also easily walkeable in 10-15 minutes). The onsen bath downstairs is a definite bonus.
