The Scrubs, Hockley The disturbed earth below this fallen log in "The Scrubs" a wood south of Hockley provides a home for a nest of 157002. In former times dead wood was cleared for firewood or tidiness. It is now part of modern forestry practice to leave some dead wood as a home for invertebrates who are a vital link in the food chain.
