"From the first welcome to the final farewell, it was a joy to stay there. Substantive breakfasts, pet friendly, old manor house setting with great views. Good choice of relatively local (less than 10 miles) public houses for evening fare. Already hoping to get back there when next visiting the Lakes, which start only six miles north."

"What a great stay. Kevin and Maria were very attentive, warm, and hospitable. This was our first night in UK after a long flight and felt like home. The accommodations were very nice and the king room was so cozy. The bed slept great and had everything we needed. The breakfast was first class but also made us feel like we were staying with family! Thanks for the great stay."

"Cheap and cheerful, in need of a lot of tlc. Room 5 was fine although the bathroom floor was very uneven. Breakfast was good, other meals were okay, you get what you pay for! Had to wash everything when we got home due to the smell of fried food. "

"Full breakfast. Views and property out of a storybook. Amazing walk into an amazing town (Ambleside). Absolutely everything we hoped it would be and more. "

"Asked for a ground floor room when i noticed no lifts as my wife has trouble with stairs now. Was given a beautiful ground floor room on same level as bar/restaurant. The room had a massive picture window with unbeatable view of lake. Same view from bar/restaurant which also has outside deck area. The pool area was great but had to tackle several flights of stairs. Breakfast good and had evening meals twice in the restaurant also good. Friendly/helpful staff."
"Whilst the hotel bills itself as 4* in our view it's living on past glories. Our Delux room had only a velux roof window which could only be opened by standing on a chair so you had a better view of the sky only. At breakfast the only coffee choice was a cafetiere so espresso or latte luxury was not an option. The should rename it a Velux room, definitely not a Delux room"
"The room was latge and comfortable, although a second chair would have been nice. the shower room was a tiled wet-room, but there was no shower mat, although one was quickly provide when asked.
Excellent food, but it looked like the evening menu didn't change very often."
"The hotel setting is delightful and has a real 'old country house' feel to it. There is a resident long-tailed peacock, who made very loud and frequent 'crows' and once flew from some high trees at dusk, which was amazing! The bar and a restaurant are next to each other and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. The full breakfast was excellent, if a little pricey at £14.50, although this was probably equivalent to any cafe price nowadays.
I was grateful to be upgraded to a twin room for no extra charge! However, there were some practical points I found unhelpful and maybe the hotel could give them some thought, given that my room tariff on the wall near reception was £170 pp per night!
There were two double sockets fitted over a heavy desk, which partially covered the sockets and without moving the desk out slightly, it was impossible to use my chargers or the kettle.
The bathroom was in good order and the shower very good, but the grab rail was dangerously loose and I didn't want to use it. I'm 72 years old and just beginning to appreciate the benefits of a grab rail, but this could not be used safely. It was also installed near the tap end and might have been more useful at the back of the bath?
The windows were old and heavy and I had to climb onto a seat in the window bay to open them - I like fresh air! There were a number of elderly people staying who might have found it difficult to solve these problems...
But I would certainly stay here again!"
"I have already told the hotel management where the hotel does not meet the standards I would expect. Comparing my experience of the present hotel with my experience when it was a Shearings.
The breakfast was a disgrace, the carpets throughout are badly stained, the paintwork is very tired being dirty and scuffed all over, the outside paved area requires weeding and jet washing, bed very uncomfortable, no bathmat.
The only redeeming feature was the welcome by the receptionist on arrival."
"Amazing upgrade to superior double room at the front of the property with views of lake Windermere. Spa facilities excellent and love you can order drinks for around the pool. Breakfast amazing with top quality produce. Love this hotel and it never disappoints."
"Ended up with a family room, which wasn't stated on the booking. Whilst very clean and with everything working, the additional beds compromised the room layout making one end very crowded. View from the room wasn't good either, made it feel closed in."
