"Nice hotel and friendly staff. Hotel is a bit dated and the dining/restaurant availability was a bit confusing (they gave us coffee tickets but it never seemed to be an option as it wasn’t staffed or offered in the lobby, and when we went to the restaurant they ushered us out the back door of the hotel which made us chuckle and go find somewhere else to eat). We stayed 2 nights in the room with the private onsen which offered great views. Would recommend this hotel, it just could use some...

"The food, atmosphere, and super friendly staff definitely make this place to return to. Staff was always friendly and very, very accommodating even with our limited Japanese vocabulary. Definitely the highlight of our trip for sure!"

"Great location in Zao onsen town. Very traditional—uniquely like “infinity castle” with stairs and tatami everywhere. The shuttle service from/to Yamagata station is a plus. Only public bathroom available, but there’s toilet in the room."
