"Nice hotel in a great location for exploring Edinburgh and the surrounding tourist areas. The rooms are a little dated and seem to vary depending on which one you get, but they were clean. We booked three rooms between us; two were absolutely fine, while the third had a mattress that had completely collapsed in one corner. When we raised this with reception, we were told the hotel was fully booked and there was nothing they could do although they did offer a couple of complimentary drinks as an apology.
The restaurant staff were friendly and welcoming, and although the breakfast selection was fairly limited, what was available was good.
The biggest downside was housekeeping. Cleaning staff were knocking on room doors before the hotel’s normal checkout time, which made it feel as though they were trying to get guests up and out as quickly as possible. We had specifically arranged a late checkout, yet they still knocked on our door. After we answered and made it clear we were still in the room, they then let themselves in anyway a short while later. We also heard the same thing happen to another room nearby. It was particularly frustrating considering we had agreed a late checkout with reception.
There also seemed to be some inconsistency between reception staff. One receptionist refused a late checkout while another friendlier member of staff later agreed to it without any problem.
Overall it’s a decent hotel in a very convenient location and we enjoyed our stay,"
