MacDuff Castle; Fife: Scotland

Michael Colliery site Flat land beside the Firth of Forth. This is the site of one of the biggest and productive Scottish mines. The mine closed in 1967 following an underground fire which killed nine miners. The site was not heavily redeveloped and is now an open space. There are still vast quantities of coal under the Firth of Forth. I live beside a closed pit on the Forth, and can see East Wemyss from my window now. It is more than possible that the seams continue, from under my feet, faulting apart all the way across from East Lothian to Fife.
