"Right next to the river and the restaurant, which is a very well run and picturesque restaurant. Fantastic breakfast, we dined right on the river. Something to watch out for though is if you’re an arachnophobe, you may have some issues. Being close to the river, the rooms can attract rather large spiders. Other than that, it’s amazing! I highly recommend it."

"Good amount of parking although either a trek to reception or the room as the equidistant spaces were all full. Check in felt convoluted and confused - eg the payment and whether breakfast was included or not. It was a bit of a faff getting to reception as we were not allowed through the normal entrance owing to a wedding and so had to enter through a side entrance - all quite bizarre. The bar was excellent as was the outdoor areas. The rooms were fairly compact but clean and well appointed - it was a hot day and the small fan didn’t do much to help so was stifling hot in the room - only one window could be opened fully. The Italian gardens was nice albeit a bit tatty in places - a couple of days of maintenance would sort that out easily enough. Overall decent stay and just about worth the money, but some room to sharpen up."

"Perfect location in Abingdon and just minutes walk to buses to Oxford if that's your interest. Took about 25-30 minutes to get into downtown Oxford on the 2 or 3 buses...very easy. The inn had a recent renovation and while it is clearly a very old property it was very charming, clean, and nicely decorated. Food was good and free breakfast had good offerings. We were there during the World Cup and they opened a separate bar/event space to fit both locals and guests in to watch the games which was very convenient and fun! Esti seems to work around the clock - checking in guests, waitressing, etc. - and always with a smile on her face and warm greeting. They are lucky to have her! Word of warning: Don't wear heels...the outdoor area is all very old, uneven cobblestone. This adds to the charm but flats/sneakers are a must. Two minute walk to the bridge over the Thames was wonderful and unexpected. We had a lovely walk all along the river before dinner one night. There is Tourist Info office just a block from the hotel and the woman who helped us navigate the bus system was really helpful. Would definitely stay at The Crown & Thistle again...must be very cozy there in wintertime. Lastly, no elevators and heavy fire doors on each floor for those who have mobility issues. New showers are very high off the floor so we took caution getting in and out of the shower. Beautiful footed bathtub but we didn't have time to use it."
