Comfort Inn & Suites South Hill I-85

Pat's Place ~ Lovey’s at the Lake

8/10 Good

"This house was the perfect size and location for our short Labor Day weekend trip. We were two families (4 adults, 3 kids) and there was more than enough room for everyone. We also really enjoyed the location, directly on Lake Gaston and in reasonable proximity to parks and stores. We also liked the stocked kitchen, and everything was available and accessible to use the grill and the kayaks. Our only issues were with cleanliness and the stocking of the bathrooms and kitchen. The place was generally clean (linens, carpet, floors and furniture), but there is some bad staining in both the bathtubs. The bedroom with the bunk beds had the faint smell of cat urine, which was not pleasant. Meanwhile, the bathrooms could have been better stocked. There was only one roll of toilet paper in each and we had to go hunting throughout the house to find hand soap for the sinks. Meanwhile, the kitchen could have been better stocked for actual use — such as more trash bags, paper towels, aluminum foil and dish towels. There was no place to set dishes to dry, but also no towels to dry them. The sponges were also old (new sponges should always be available). Meanwhile, the lights on the dryer control panel don’t work so it’s a guessing game on what settings you’re using. Finally, the area around the kayak launch needs to cleaned up. Lots of trash In the water, esp. So generally, our stay was great overall. There were just some small details that could have been paid better attention to."

Executive Mansion at Lake Gaston sleeps 40 and has HEATED POOL.

10/10 Excellent

"We had a great time at the Executive Mansion with our family of 24 people. The house was very spacious and the amenities were great. Having a pool was a definite plus and it got a lot of use. The kitchen had just about everything we could need and made meal prep very easy. We rented the boat and went fishing almost every day. We caught more fish on this trip than any other vacations we have been on, and we didn’t even have to travel that far from the house. We had a few minor issues, but the home owner was very responsive in addressing them. When you spend as much as we did on a vacation property you expect everything to be perfect. However, it’s a rental property, so it’s going to show some signs of wear and tear. Did any of these issues detract from our overall experience? Not really, so I’m not going to dive into the specifics. Would we go back? Our group likes to try different places each time, but if we were to go back to Lake Gaston, the Executive Mansion would definitely be on the list."
