"this motel six in Van Horn is my go to stop when driving from Texas to Arizona on interstate 10. You should know upfront that it's a no-frills overnight day, and things you might expect in a hotel room are lacking, like an ice machine, Kleenex or art on the walls.
But the lady at The Front Desk was friendly and helpful, the AC was ice cold when we opened up the room, the premises were clean and well maintained despite being older and showing signs of wear and tear, and there was no underworld activity going on as far as I could tell. There is a little park across the street to walk your dog. I do miss the psychedelic intensity of waking up to those orange walls from back in the day, they are gray now.
Pro tip for travelers on a budget: get a cheap good nights sleep at the Motel 6, and stop by the historic El Capitan motel down the road for breakfast and enjoy the beautiful peaceful courtyard fountain and gorgeous original lobby from 1930. You also might want to wear earplugs overnight at the Motel 6, because there is a freight train line right across the street. Coffee in the morning is decent. happy traveling."
