Crisp, Cold, Christleton Canal. Quite a frosty morning on the Shropshire Union Canal, near Christleton. A small marina on the right, with one of the boats showing signs of life, with smoke coming out of the chimney.
Christleton Pond. Adjacent to the pond was a house named Pit Farm which could indicate that the pond was originally some form of pit which after it reached the end of its useful life, filled with water.
Dixon’s Almshouses, Christleton The attractive grade II listed Dixon’s Almshouses in Christleton, built in 1867-8 to provide homes for poor and needy people of the parish. The elegant timber-framed buildings were commissioned by Mary Anne Dixon of Littleton Old Hall in memory of her son James and designed by John Oldrid Scott, younger son of the famous architect Sir George Gilbert Scott.
