Crinan Canal
Crinan Canal
Cup-and-Ring-Marked Rock This is one of three rock surfaces in the immediate vicinity which have incised cup-and-ring marks. The shape formed by the long cracks on this one are sometimes described as a fish, but to me most of them look too deep to have been carved with the primitive tools of 5000 years ago. Perhaps a prehistoric carver also noticed the natural shape, and enhanced it by adding s few extra lines.

Near Cairnbaan This open plateau is the site of several cup-and-ring-marked surfaces. It has a good view in most directions, and this may be one of the reasons why it was chosen by the ancient sculptors.
