Byers Green Junction The Clarence Railway opened 1837, ran between Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland. The trackbed has now been converted into the Auckland Way http://www.cobr.co.uk/e-cobr_information/cycling_initiatives/sections/rail_trails/auckland_way/text.shtml ,an attractive path for walkers and cyclists, here seen diverging off to the left. To the right, the West Durham Railway, completed 1840 ran towards Willington.

Parish Church, Whitworth Pevsner, County Durham: Parish Church, Whitworth: Built in 1850 and refurbished in the 1880s and 1890s. Parts are said to date back to the 13th Century and is on the site of a much earlier church.
