"We were given a spa voucher as a present and decided to treat ourselves and book in for the night. We were not disappointed. This hotel is worth its 5 star rating and more. The spa was lovely, especially the view over the golf course and out to the Ailsa Craig. The hotel was quite quiet due to the time of year so we were lucky to be upgraded to a suite. (That never happens to me!) The room was spotless and the staff were very attentive without being too overbearing. We started off saying that this would be a one off but are already making arrangements to return for longer. "
"We arrived as the concierge was taking a phone call from another customer complaining and requesting a refund...not the best start.
Our stay coincided with a friends birthday party in the function suite, she was told there was a special rate for those that booked direct with the hotel. Three phonecalls later and staff had no idea about it, so we booked on hotels.com instead as the rates going direct were significantly higher.
We stayed in room 18, which has seen better days, cracks in the tiles and bath panel. In comparison to the lochside, this hotel is severely lacking and the bed and pillows fairly uncomfortable. That said, the room was clean.
The biggest issue i had that night was with a member of barstaff, I used the hotel bar rather than the function suite as there was only one member of staff serving and i wanted cocktails. I gave my order to the staff member and they didnt appear to be very pleased, but made them, I then asked for a pina colada and they looked furious, i asked to pay and come back for it, they huffed and handed me the card reader. I can only guess they'd just cleaned the machine, but I know that i did not deserve that level of attitude. Later i returned to the bar for more cocktails, that same member of staff, left and then returned, when we asked if they were serving they replied "no, i told you that before i left" just very unprofessional.
I wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone"
"AVOID We stayed here for a friend’s hen weekend. The experience was overshadowed by the host’s behaviour after our stay.Property issues:•No hot water for the first 24 hours•Ants in the bathroom•Pre-existing marks on furniture and carpets•Bed delivery blocking the front door•Poorly finished en-suite with exposed plaster•Hot tub speakers not working•Advertised for 12 guests, but host insurance only covers 10Before arrival we were sent an extensive list of rules. After checkout, the host made multiple allegations, including touching curtains, marking units, wearing heels on carpets and dancing on furniture — all of which we strongly dispute.Despite leaving the house as found, I received 17 accusatory messages, including 10 whatsapp messages at 2:30am in one night. VRBO advised me to block the host due to the volume and tone of communication. The host said she had a camera inside the property that were ‘removed when guests arrived’ this raised alarm bells with us! During communication she referenced that she needed specialist treatment and that her nephew also needed paid treatment; which made the situation feel like she was making these accusations to claim damage deposit money. Overall, the repeated accusations and late-night messages and harassment over the course of a week, caused significant stress. We would advise future guests to avoid this property unless you want a long list of rules and harassment and accusations afterwards. "
"We stayed at the Brig O’Doon for two nights after our wedding as a little mini moon. The hotel is beautiful - very atmospheric and romantic and we stayed in the signature river view room - the view is the stuff of fairytales. The room was luxurious and we had a great sleep! All the staff were friendly and professional and there were some lovely touches and treats as we had mentioned we were staying post wedding. We ate in Tales restaurant both nights and the food/drinks were lovely and the service excellent. The hotel is in a beautiful part of Ayrshire and we enjoyed the Burns experience and a walk to the coast. Can’t fault a thing, we had a romantic and magical two days away and will be back for our anniversary."
"The hotel was undergoing some refurbishment and we had difficulty getting in. Eventually a guest told us to ring a bell at the side of one of the doors in the foyer of the side entrance to speak to the proprietor. Also we had trouble getting the TV to work as only the Sky box worked but no instructiins on how to connect it to the right channel. "
