"Everything was exceptional. The hospitality from Graham and Sheena was second to none. We got lost our first night out and after a quick call, Graham got us back on track and was actually on his way out to find us when we turned up the drive! That is the level of hospitality provided. "We recently stayed at the Highlander Hotel in Newtonmore with my girlfriend and had a generally pleasant experience. The hotel is in a very good location, making it a handy base for exploring the surrounding area, and the bus service is excellent, which made getting around straightforward and convenient. The service throughout our stay was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We also felt the hotel offered good value for money, which definitely added to the overall experience. The bar was another positive point, with a good selection on draught, and Staropramen at £5.80 a pint was very competitive compared with other bars in the area. While the stay was enjoyable, there are a few areas where the hotel could be improved to make it feel a little more comfortable and modern. The decor in the hotel and room felt quite tired and could really benefit from an update. It didn’t take away from our stay too much, but a refresh would certainly help improve the overall impression. The room was also quite warm during our visit, so having a fan provided would have made a noticeable difference. Breakfast was fine, but it would be better if it were available until 10:00 am, especially for guests who prefer a slightly later start to the day. Another small improvement would be a key drop-off option for out-of-hours checkout, as I had to go back to the room and leave the key on the table, which wasn’t the most convenient. Newtonmore itself is a good location, though it is not as livel"

Coylumbridge Resort Hotel

"The site is ideal for families with younger children. We were nervous after reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. We checked in online before hand, so it meant we were able to use the dedicated 'online check-in' line at the front desk (I could see that others were having a longer wait, especially when groups came in by coach) Our interactions with staff were universally positive, with service staff in the main hotel area very friendly and helpful. The Activity Centre area staff were also friendly. The pool area and changing rooms were clean and tidy. We really liked that there were two separate pools, as the shallower/warmer pool was ideal for our less-confident swimmers. The pool slide was out of service, so we hope to try it on a future visit. Food was ok, but there weren't a huge number of vegan/vegetarian options, which was tricky for our family. It was disappointing that there were no vegetarian kids items at the kids activity zone cafe, but we were told that they are getting a new menu in the coming weeks, so that may change! If you are unable to easily carry your own bags up stairs, please keep in mind when booking that there are no lifts to the upper floors. You should ask for a lower floor, or confirm with the hotel about what assistance might be available. My husband ended up helping a group of older persons with large suitcases up the stairs to their floor, as they were well enough to walk up the stairs but not strong enough to carry their cases."

Macdonald Aviemore Highland Hotel

"We really enjoyed our first stay at MacDonald Highland. It was instantly a child-friendly atmosphere (we were holidaying with a nearly 3 year old and a 5 month old) and the facilities for them were wonderful. The staff were particularly helpful and the family room set up was great although we had to drop the legs of a single bed down closer to the ground for our toddler as it was a bit too high. Our only very small criticism was the apparent lack of sockets by the side of the bed for phone charging (this would help when konked out after trying to get two young children to sleep!) We look forward to visiting again!"
