This hotel was fine for the price, and would probably be willing to stay here again, but this is not what I would call a "nice hotel." The whole house is quirky, feels a little unfinished, and the walls are thin so you can hear people moving around in the house at all hours. Our beds were comfortable, and it was nice that the room had a mini fridge, microwave, and sink. There is also a shared kitchen. Upon arrival, we were charged an extra 200 yen per person per day for the hotel tax, and an extra 300 yen per person per day for access to the onsen. We were fine paying this, but it was a little bit of a surprise, especially because there was no alternative way to bathe/shower. The onsen was the highlight of this hotel for us. It is a private bath that comfortably fit two of us, which was romantic and relaxing.
I don't want to be unfair to this property. People checking into other rooms under other circumstances would likely have a better experience, but this was mine. I arrived after a complicated day of traveling during a typhoon, with wet bags and soaked clothes. After getting my passport and other legally required information, the woman who checked me in spent a fair bit of time explaining the rules/procedures of the guest house. Most of that information is included in the Expedia listing and had been sent to me in 4-5 duplicative messages before I arrived. They have probably had problems with people who didn't read the messages, but that doesn't justify the belligerent tone of those communications.
The room itself was taken up almost entirely by a built-in futon platform. I could sort of store my luggage under the platform, but there was nowhere to dry my wet clothes and no comfortable way to sit and read or relax. I was booked for two nights, but checked out the following morning.
From images posted online, other rooms in this facility are much nicer, and this guest house would have been more workable under different circumstances. But this was my experience.
We were the only guests and thus had the whole house for ourselves. Amazing new outdoor Onsen and very spacious room with a wonderfull view. Very clean and good futon beds. Well equipped kitchen. We totally enjoyed our stay at Ikkyuan!

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Well decorated, but the bathroom wasn’t clean, Onsen was burning hot, washing machine didn’t work, they have a book of rules, and I got locked out at 9:25PM. I rarely write bad reviews, but this place was not good.
