County Donegal boasts some remarkable landscape diversity. All of the county was glaciated up to about 10,000 years ago and the effect of glaciation is everywhere in evidence still. Here at Glengesh, this wide and rounded valley, a U-shaped valley, is the classic shape of a glaciated valley. A great county to explore if you are interested in geology or topography.

From Glencolumbkille a road heads inland towards Ardara, through the wild and picturesque Glengesh Pass where the road meanders through sloping mountainous terrain. Glengesh Pass is a high pass with an elevated window on Loughros Beg Bay, exquisitely framed between the steep sided Glengesh and Mulmosog mountains.
